Can a .dat file be converted to play music?

I listed to music online & it appeared in my IE5 temp folder as a 28MB .dat file. Normally I can save such "listened to" files to my hard drive and then play them again as they open the applicable player (wma, swf, etc). This file opens in Notebook. Can it be converted to play the music?
