How difficult would it be to move to Los Angeles right now?

I currently live in nyc. I have a bit of money saved up and I works as an executive istant. From those who maybe live in LA or who have maybe picked up and moved across the country just because they wanted to, how difficult was it/ is it? Would it be difficult to line up a job and apartment beforehand? Is it just plain stupid in general right now to leave a job and a rent stabilized apartment behind in this economy?
