I use fruity loops 9. My ASIO is not working at all, no sound coming through. Would an ext soundcard fix this?

ive tried re-installing fruity and ASIO4ALL and neither has worked. the only way i can get sound is using the basic sounddriver in my laptop, which cant handle the load when i use plugins such as mive or kontakt. all kinds of crackling ****. Somebody please help me.
